Hey everyone! This is "Lucky" for lack of a better Irish nickname. Three random things about me? I'll make it four. Well 1: I'm from Door County, and I graduated with a class of about 50. 2: I love the color pink. 3: I have met Dr. Heimlich, he comes to my family's lodge every summer. 4: My dream is to become an actress. I signed up for this course because I enjoy English and this course is online so I don't have to walk to class in the cold. My favorite novels are Redwall and Shadow of the Wind. I don't read all that much but when I find a good book I can't put it down. When I'm reading a book it's like I'm in a whole other world and it's a nice escape from reality.
In high school English was my favorite class. Last semester I took a creative writing class, and got a letter from the head of the English board thanking me for my contribution to the class. So I guess he liked my work. I honestly don't know anything about Irish literature, but I'm curious about what it has to offer, and I think it will be an ineresting class! My experience with online communications doesn't go beyond facebook, but I'm a photographer and am working on putting my photos on an online page.
The image above is a picture of a ruin in Puerto Rico. I went there Junior year of high school and absolutely loved it there. I like this picture because it's so rare to find something so old amidst everything new, and I thought that was really unique. One webpage I like to visit a lot would probably be my homepage, which is msn.com just because there's always so many different things on there! I learn something new every day.
A youtube video? Well I guess I'll post my all time favorite---David After Dentist! I can't seem to get the link to work but if you type it into youtube it's the first one...and it's hilarious. I just like this video simply because it makes me laugh! :)

Hi Lucky,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love the picture you posted. It's beautiful. I know exactly what you mean about the beauty in seeing something so old amidst so many new buildings. I have some pictures from when I was in England where you see all these old buildings, some with WWII pock marks on them, and in the background these huge new skyscrapers. It's just an interesting comparison. I'll have to see if I can find those pictures and post them on my blog somewhere.
Also, I too love the David After Dentist clip. What's so ironic is as I was reading your blog I was also watching Tosh.0 and they had this clip on and a little skit with David and his dad now. Too funny!!! I think I love Youtube just for the funny videos they have posted. I put a cat montage video from Youtube on my page as my favorite video. Another favorite of mine from Youtube is the "Charlie bit my finger" video. I love English and Irish accents and to hear this little kid's English accent cracks me up every time. Check it out.
I used to live "nearish" to Door County. We lived in New Franken for a while and visited Door County a few times.
I also came from a small town. My graduating class only had 47 people in it. Prior to high school, I was in a Catholic school and I only had about 12 students in my class.
So in the end, sorry if this seems a bit rambling...it's much harder than I thought to post a comment that is 250 words.
Hello!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to read your blog for a variety of reasons- my favorite color also happens to be pink (magenta, in fact) and I like to consider myself somewhat of a amateur photographer. For the past three years I've done family portraits at Sears and decided last fall to branch out on my own. I've been fortunate enough to shoot for a wedding and a few senior portraits. I'm definitely more of an "event" photographer. What mediums do you use when taking pictures?
You and I are in the same boat as far as online forums go. I'm grossly addicted to facebook (and who isn't these days?) but I don't venture much on other forums. That's all going to change for me this semester. Three of my classes require blogging and/or membership on news sites, so in a way I'm thankful that I'm being forced to deal with technology, but at the same time it can be overwhelming.
Hope you're enjoying your time in the big city!
Sorry for the second post, but I realized my commentary wasn't even close to 250 words! So what else to talk about? Reading!! I'm not familiar with Redwall or Shadow of the Wind, so I decided to google them. Redwall is a series correct? I found a few book reviews and it seems like a story line my son Brandon would enjoy so I've already requested them from the library. So, thanks! Also, I would like to recommend some books to you- Water for Elephants (it will suck you in!) The Westing Game (yes, more of a preteen book, but its a fun whodunnit) and White Oleander. Those three are books I get lost in time and time again.
ReplyDeleteHi lucky!
ReplyDeleteI am jealous that you are from door county … I have visited there a few times and I absolutely love it there. I love the feeling of being by the water … so I am glad to live here in Milwaukee, where I can go down and be by the lake when I want to. I have lived in Milwaukee my whole life, so I can’t imagine having lived there and been in a class with only 50 people!
So that is cool that you’re a photographer. What subject matter do you like working with best? I would love to see whatever you post online. I am somewhat jealous of creative people. I dabble with photography and collages occasionally, but I don’t really think I’m any good. Plus you have your acting ambition, so clearly you’ve got some creativity goin’ on. Well done. =)
I’m not familiar with either of the books you mentioned. I will have to check ‘em out. I too love the escape you can get with a good book … I’m hoping to maybe experience some of that in this class. I am looking forward to reading “A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man;” that’s one I have heard a lot about.
I, like probably everyone else under 40, am on Facebook. It’s alright. I don’t fancy myself much of an internet person (which is ironic considering this is an online course we’re taking!). But it’ll be interesting blogging, which is not something I’ve done before.
Be well!
Hi Lucky!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love your photography! You have a really sensitive eye for nature. Last semester, I had a student do a series of photographs inspired from a particular novel we read as their final creative project. Please keep this in mind as we move through the course. I also noticed you enjoy acting. Sadly, this being a class about the Irish NOVEL, we won't be exploring Ireland's great theater tradition. Again, though, feel free to explore Irish theatre on your own either through your online artifact essay or your creative project. You might be interested in two Irish theatrical personalities--Maud Gonne and Lady Gregory. They're very interesting ladies and will give you some good insight into the Irish theatrical scene in the late 19th century. Incidentally, have you been in any recent plays at UWM? What sort of acting have you done?
Welcome to the course!
